This new arrangement from SATB of "The Iron Rod" is full of energy and excitement as we realize the significance of holding on to Christ and His revealed word. The word of God is strong, bright, and true. We will be safely guided through life as we hold true to what we know as right and good. Life is difficult, but with Christ as our guide, we have no need to fear. I know He lives and will continue to guide us through.
Ralph Waldo Emerson taught: "It is the office of a true teacher to show that God is not was, that he speaketh, not spake." It is my testimony and firm belief that we have these true teachers on the earth today, namely prophets and apostles. The words of this hymn is a prayer of gratitude to God for all that He has given us in these latter-days, including prophets who teach, lead, and guide us; the music arrangement is my representation of the gratitude, joy, and excitement, as well as the reverence that I feel every time I think that we have a prophet of God on the earth!

As Moses and Abraham and Peter did before, Thomas Monson fills the holy role as Prophet of God, even His spokesman on the earth. Of course, each of us are to have an intimate and personal relationship with Diety, but with a Prophet who holds the priesthood authority of God- His power and permission- and who has a special endowment of spiritual ability, it is good to know that we truly are led and guided today.
This sacred hymn asks the question of where we can go to find peace, joy, and happiness in this life. Where can we find real answers in a world of questions, doubt, and mixed messages from every hand?

"The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. I know that through our Savior, Jesus Christ, we can find peace, answers, direction, and hope. He is the Prince of Peace, the Hope of Israel, and the Light of the World.

At America's Freedom Festival patriotic service--held on June 29, 2014 in Provo, UT-- Laura Bush, former First Lady, delivered a moving address of America and patriotism. She recounted the events of her husband throwing the first pitch of the World Series in October 2001, just following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She spoke about how President Bush needed to step up to the mound to give America strength and show that life and this country will go on. She invited us all to "step up to the mound" and stand up for America's ideals and values.

This poem is that story and invitation to all of America, to step up, stand up, and take an active role in preserving America's founding ideals of faith, family, and freedom.
James H. Wallis penned the following words about the triumphant day of Christ's return:

Oh, how joyful it will be

When our Savior we shall see!

When in splendor he'll descend,

Then all wickedness will end.

Oh, what songs we then will sing

To our Savior, Lord, and King!

Oh, what love will then bear sway

When our fears shall flee away!

Set to a lively Spanish melody, "Come, Ye Children of the Lord" is an invitation to all to rejoice in life, to come unto Christ and prepare for His return to earth. This piano solo setting of this melody is my hopeful cry to believe the words of President Thomas S. Monson: "The future is as bright as your faith." I've been hiking a lot this summer, and have been greatly impressed by the glorious mountains of the Wasatch Front. They are majestic and imposing, yet beautiful and strong. There is a great feeling from climbing atop a waterfall or cliff face and feeling like you're on top of the world!

My mind goes to this scripture in the Book of Mormon:

"It is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation...a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if me build, they cannot fall." Helaman 5:12

This hymn encompasses my feelings and desire to build my life upon the Rock of Christ, my Savior. The driving beat and the syncopation showcase the excitement and joy that comes from being firmly rooted in our Savior.
Recently, I have had some wonderful experiences of miracles and great blessings from the hand of the Lord. One particular day after work, I found myself singing this song on my car ride home, and felt to arrange this piano solo as a praise to Him, who makes everything work so well!

Psalm 150:

1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Taking time out of our busy day to pray, study the scriptures, and connect with Deity is so important to our overall well-being. Recognizing opportunities to serve and lift and bless others is another way to refuel our spiritual selves and connect with heaven.

"Take Time To Be Holy" has become one of my all-time favorite hymns. Simple in melody and powerful in word, it reminds us all to take the time each day to do the things that matter most. One special place to me is the temple. On the front of each temple in the world are the words "House of the Lord; Holiness to the Lord." In the temple I feel close to God, and learn how to be more like Him.
"We'll sing and we'll shout!" That's what I feel like doing every time I feel the Spirit and learn more about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ! This hymn is a jubilant anthem of the miracles and wonders of Christ's church and gospel, and a call to prepare for His second coming.

I know that He lives, and that He speaks to us today just as He did anciently. He has called prophets just as He did before, and has restored His priesthood and His church, so we--just as those who lived with Him and the Apostles--can receive the saving ordinances available in temples and prepare to return to live with Him again.
With the prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon, I rejoice to know that there is a God in heaven who lives and loves us. His hand and influence is in our lives every day. All we have to do is recognize the blessings and miracles to know that He is there and loves us. With all the goodness and joy and miracles from His hand, how can we keep from singing?!
I know that Jesus Christ lives. He is the Son of God, our Savior. In our world today where "anything goes" and the moral foundations of society and prosperity are crumbling, I am grateful to know that there is still a God in heaven who hears and answers my prayers. His communications are soft and spoken to the heart, but He speaks and is intimately involved in our lives. We just have to let Him in. He is the source of peace and joy, love and confidence, which we so greatly need in our world today.

This medley arrangement of "Beautiful Savior" and "I Feel My Savior's Love" is my expression of the peace and hope that I find in Jesus Christ and the strength that His love gives me.
I recently finished reading Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. As I read of the change of heart that Scrooge experienced, I felt the music inside his words:

"I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the Year. I will live in the Past, the Present and the Future. The Spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach" (Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. Barnes and Noble Classic. 81).

Each of us can keep the Christmas Spirit with us throughout the year as we look for opportunities to serve and help others. Scrooge learned it and changed his heart and the lives of those around him. Such can be our opportunity with those with whom we come in contact.

May the Spirit of Christmas and the Peace of our Savior be with each of us this Christmastime, and always.
This is my favorite German Christmas carol! O du fröliche! This carol is Christmas to me. (Don't worry, only the first two phrases are in German!)

This song joyfully welcomes in the Christmas season with singing and dancing! Don't be scared by the 7/8 time signature; just play the dance! This time of year really is "Joy to the World"!

Enjoy!
What a beautiful song to bring in the Christmas season! These words ring true to me: "Truly, He taught us to love one another/His law is love and His gospel is peace." May we all love each other a little more, and work to bring about peace in our lives and to those around us.
Just to start the Christmas mood... who doesn't like caroling?! This is quintessential Christmas! Hopefully this arrangement of this traditional carol about caroling (or wassail, depending) is accessible to a wide range of pianists, and we can all enjoy bringing in the Christmas season!

As a good friend once told me: "The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing [and playing the piano] loud for all to hear!"

Joy and Happiness; that's what this time of year is all about! Enjoy!
I know it's early, but Christmas is my favorite time of year! I wrote this song several years ago, but it still captures why I love the Christmas season so much! It can be sung as a solo, a choir, a small group, or by just about any group!

This is a time of year to refocus ourselves on the things that matter most: family, love, service, sharing, and the Reason for the Season, even Jesus Christ. May we all be more like Him.
Christmas is such a magical time! There is nothing quite like seeing the twinkle in a child's eye around Christmastime. The lights and sounds and magic are thick in the air! But I have recognized how among all the gifts and presents and celebrations, these little children seem to never forget the reason for the season: our Savior, Jesus Christ. This piano duet tries to bring the simplicity of a child together with the spirit of the season.
This is one of my all-time favorite hymns! I found out the other day that my family history lines go back to the Schwartz and Kirschenman families, who lived in Württemburg, Germany in the 1700's, exactly when and where this music was written! So this is also my pioneer tribute, to them.

This song always reminds me of a rising sun, growing brighter and brighter, eliminating all the shadow which the light touches, filling the whole land. So it is with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that the Lord has put forth his hand again to restore His true and living Church and Gospel to the earth, exactly as He has done before, and promised to do again in our day. All this is in preparation for His majestic return. His truth will go forth to every Nation, Kindred, Tongue, and People, for so He said. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15; Doctrine and Covenants 1:5; Mosiah 3:20)
Christmas in July!

This song was first performed in Dortmund, Germany at the Dortmund Ward 2012 Christmas Concert. I have often thought about the events surrounding the humble birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. This song provides a scene of a clear, starry sky, with joy and peace in the air. If the stars and sheep could tell us of what they saw and felt and experienced that sacred night, oh, what glorious stories they would tell us! God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.
While this is not a piece of music (yet!), I felt to do something to celebrate by favorite holiday of the year: Independence Day! America was founded on the ideals of family, faith, freedom, work, and progress; or, in other words, on the American Dream. This poem includes some of my reflections on this topic of the American Dream, and how a bright future is still in store for us, if we hold true to the ideals that founded this country.

I know the Founding Fathers were inspired by Almighty God in the founding of this country. The ideals of freedom and liberty are eternal truths that the Lord has taught us through His holy word:

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (2 Corinthians 3:17, Bible)

"...the spirit of God, which is also the spirit of freedom" (Alma 61:15, The Book of Mormon)

"[We] are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil." (2 Nephi 2:27, The Book of Mormon)

May we continue to live as we should, so God may continue to bless America.
